If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?<\/em>
\u2014 Luke 11:13 (KJV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many times, people ask, “How do I know that I have the Holy Spirit?” or “How do I know that the tongues I speak are authentic?” The answer lies in the faithfulness and trustworthiness of our Heavenly Father. In the context of our anchor text, Jesus explains that even evil earthly fathers do not give a serpent to their children when asked for fish, nor do they give a stone when asked for bread. He then assures us that the Heavenly Father is even more willing to give us His Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This tells us that if we genuinely call upon the Father for the baptism of the Spirit, He won’t give us a stone in place of bread. There are special cases where people have been led astray into different practices in the infancy of their Christian walk. However, if you truly call upon the Father for the baptism of the Spirit, and He gives you the evidence of tongues, then you ought to have faith in the Father’s willingness to give.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What practices am I referring to as wrong? Here are a few: If, when you became saved, someone taught you to speak in tongues by asking you to say certain words, that’s incorrect. If your baptism in the Spirit was based on something other than Christ Jesus, like just an exercise in Spiritism, that is very concerning as well. Also, imitating what you heard another person saying is also inaccurate. Any practices along these lines may be cause for concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If your experience does not fall into any of these categories, then you likely have the authentic gift but lack confidence in it. Even if you are not confident at the beginning, as long as you devote yourself to the Word and to prayer, you will grow stronger in the things of God. Your faith will deepen. Don’t let anyone take from you this holy deposit that God has placed within you. Guard it jealously, for some have lost it due to deceptive doctrines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The issue here is faith. We speak in tongues by faith as the Spirit gives us utterance. The Lord Jesus said that in His name, we shall cast out devils and speak with new tongues. This means it is by faith in His name that we do these things, including speaking in tongues. If your foundation in Spirit baptism is correct, you are unlikely to be wrong in speaking in tongues. The Heavenly Father is better than earthly fathers. He does not give a stone in place of bread. Rejoice and become bolder in this blessing called tongues. Amen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PRAYER<\/strong>
Thank you, Heavenly Father, for the gift of your Spirit in us and upon us. Thank you for the gift of tongues. Help me to be bolder and more effective in this holy gift. Amen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
