{"id":733,"date":"2025-02-20T05:58:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-20T05:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newcreationcity.org\/?p=733"},"modified":"2025-02-20T06:01:07","modified_gmt":"2025-02-20T06:01:07","slug":"the-gracious-gift-of-righteousness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newcreationcity.org\/?p=733","title":{"rendered":"The Gracious Gift of Righteousness"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Discipleship Devotional, February 20th, 2025<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;For if, because of one man\u2019s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.&#8221;<\/strong><br><strong>\u2013 Romans 5:17 (ESV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are only two types of righteousness seen in the Scriptures. One is from man\u2019s works, which God says is a filthy rag, and the other is from God, which is a gift received by every believer at salvation. There is a difference between being declared righteous and being made righteous. Being declared righteous is basically what the Old Testament saints had, in that they were counted as righteous based on their faith. Someone like Abraham was counted righteous because he believed. They were not righteous but were counted righteous because of their faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the New Testament believer, it is not just being counted as righteous\u2014it is being made righteous. As a result of the sacrifice of Christ, we have been given God\u2019s righteousness as a gift. This is a reality because the Spirit of God now dwells in us. We are not just sinners counted as righteous; we are new creations who have the righteousness of God in us. Hallelujah!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a result, we are now fashioned for good deeds because we have been recreated in Christ. We have been purified and given a nature of righteousness to help us live a life of righteousness. We are now zealous for good deeds. So just as the old man craved sin, we have now been recreated to crave righteousness. We no longer have the old nature of sin. By God&#8217;s sovereign act of grace, He has empowered us with a new nature that can live far above sin.
