Discipleship Devotional, March 8th, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us\u2026”
\u2014 Ephesians 2:4 (NKJV)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The character of God, as revealed throughout the scriptures, from the Old Testament to the New Testament, showcases His abundant mercy. His mercy knows no bounds, and this truth is emphasized repeatedly in the Bible. King David often proclaimed, “For His mercy endures forever.” This declaration carried deep meaning for David, as he was someone who experienced God’s mercy firsthand. Though David was the least in his family, God showed him mercy and elevated him to become the ruler of all Israel. Even in moments of personal failure, David continually hoped in God\u2019s mercy, and God, in turn, faithfully extended it to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Old Testament, we also encounter the story of Jonah, which provides another profound illustration of God\u2019s mercy. Contrary to popular belief, Jonah’s reluctance to go to Nineveh was not born out of fear but rather an understanding of God’s mercy. Jonah knew that if the wicked people of Nineveh repented, God would show them mercy, and this was the very reason he resisted going.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo he prayed to the Lord, and said, \u2018Ah, Lord, was not this what I said when I was still in my country? Therefore I fled previously to Tarshish; for I know that You are a gracious and merciful God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, One who relents from doing harm.\u2019\u201d
\u2014 Jonah 4:2 (NKJV)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jonah’s confidence in God’s mercy was so strong that he was certain that even Nineveh, a city known for its wickedness, would receive it. This serves as a powerful reminder to us all\u2014never doubt the boundless mercy of God. Today, place your hope in God’s mercy. He is rich in mercy beyond human comprehension. No matter what you have done, humbly turn to the Lord and seek His forgiveness, for His mercy endures forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prayer:
