{"id":797,"date":"2025-03-14T04:51:31","date_gmt":"2025-03-14T04:51:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newcreationcity.org\/?p=797"},"modified":"2025-03-14T04:51:32","modified_gmt":"2025-03-14T04:51:32","slug":"too-much-talk-leads-to-sin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newcreationcity.org\/?p=797","title":{"rendered":"Too Much Talk Leads to Sin"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Discipleship Devotional, March 14th, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.&#8221;<\/em><br>\u2014 Proverbs 10:19 (ESV)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As believers, it\u2019s important to recognize that being a talebearer is not good. When people engage in endless chatter, the truth is that it becomes easier to say something displeasing to God. Some people feel they must always have something to add, especially in public discussions. Sometimes, they have nothing meaningful to say but feel pressured to speak just for attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, when everyone is sharing stories about their trips abroad, you don\u2019t have to feel pressured to join in if you haven\u2019t traveled before. Otherwise, you might end up fabricating stories. Even if you have traveled, you might speak in a way that exaggerates your experiences because you want people to see you in a particular light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The desire to always say something can lead to sin. We must therefore be prudent and restrain our lips from unnecessary chatter. It is God&#8217;s will that our tongues be preserved. This is why, sometimes, after a long group conversation, you may feel convicted about some of the things you said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even in one-on-one conversations, you might feel convicted for what you said, how you said it, or the motive behind your words. I remember watching a respected senior minister who, while talking about the miraculous provision and financial increase God had given him, stopped halfway, noting that he was getting convicted about the motive behind sharing those testimonies. On the one hand, he wanted to motivate people to trust God by mentioning these blessings, but he realized halfway that his true motive was to show off his wealth, and he stopped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is how thin the line can be sometimes, so we should always be careful with our words. Also, when we engage in endless chit-chat, we can let out information that we ought not to. We can divulge information to people who do not deserve such information. This is why we must let our words be seasoned with salt. We must not just engage in endless chit-chat for the sake of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Prayer<\/strong><br>Holy Spirit, help me to be prudent in my words. Help me to measure what I say.
