“Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.”<\/strong> The doctrine of the Scriptures is very clear that we are not justified by anything else but faith in Christ. We are not justified by our works, by our good deeds, by our giving, or by our piety. We are justified by grace alone through faith alone in the precious blood of Christ. This is why we continually see the phrase \u201cThe just shall live by faith\u201d<\/strong> all across the Scriptures. However, there\u2019s also something that the Lord said along with that. He said if any man draws back, His soul will have no pleasure in them. What does this mean? This is typical of what we would call backsliding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The truth is that God admonishes us not to draw back in our faith but to hold on to faith even until the end. There are some of you who may be weak and tired for many reasons. Maybe trials and tribulations are testing you. There are even those being wooed by the pleasures of this life and the seductive ideologies of the age. The word of the Lord today for you is to hold fast to the sound words that you have believed.<\/strong> Don\u2019t turn from it to the right or left. If we will not draw back, we must hold on to the Word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In just a few verses before our anchor text, the writer of Hebrews hammered on holding fast to the faith, saying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)”<\/strong> God takes it seriously that we hold on to the faith that we profess. We cannot be as unstable as the wind. We must be built firmly on our faith. The truth is that this year, like every year, will have its trials and tests. It will have its temptations. It is for us to be prepared and not allow ourselves to draw back because of anything. I pray for you that you will be firm till the end and that nothing will be able to make you draw back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Holy Spirit, help me to walk in Your steps throughout this year.
