Discipleship Devotional, April 20th, 2025<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.<\/strong>
\u2013 Acts 2:24 (NIV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The resurrection of Christ is the most significant event in all of human history, and this is because of what it signifies for all who believe. It was the first instance of a man being raised from the dead in a glorified state. In other words, he was raised with a spiritual body, never to experience death again. This man was Jesus Christ. This man indeed was God in the flesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our anchor text tells us that death couldn\u2019t maintain its hold on him. And this death was not solely physical death, but also spiritual death. Spiritual death is the state of being separated from God. We were all spiritually dead (alienated from God) because of Adam\u2019s sin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Jesus took our sins and our separation upon himself. This was the significant agony that Christ feared in Gethsemane. It wasn\u2019t solely the Roman stripes, the crown of thorns, or the cross that troubled him. It was the knowledge that he would be separated from His Father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But glory to God! Jesus conquered death. The Bible says he defeated the one who had the power of death, the devil, and now he possesses the authority over life and death. Consequently, he now offers eternal life to anyone and everyone who believes. Hallelujah!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death\u2014that is, the devil\u2014and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.<\/strong>
\u2013 Hebrews 2:14-15 (NIV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Death came face to face with Life and lost. Now we are assured of eternal life in Him. Hallelujah!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
