The Universe Declares His Majesty

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”
– Psalm 19:1 (NIV)

Every human is born with an innate knowledge of God. It does not matter what we call ourselves; the truth is that God is real, and we all know it in our innermost core. From the moment a person gains consciousness, even at a tender age, simply looking at the world around us convinces us that there is a Creator. We realize it’s impossible for such an incredibly intelligent design to have no intelligent Designer. This is why we say that even the universe declares His majesty.

King David, in our anchor text, says that the heavens declare His glory. He continues in his eulogy, saying that the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Still reflecting on the world God created, he states that day after day, they continue to utter speech, and night after night, they reveal knowledge.

In verse 3, David says something striking:
“There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard.”
What this means is that no matter where anyone is in the world, they can hear the voice of creation telling them there is a God. Hence, we are without excuse.

“The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”
– Romans 1:19–20 (NIV)

The Apostle Paul explains here that God has revealed Himself to all of us, but many suppress that truth in wickedness.
