Setting Godly Boundaries

But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
Romans 13:14 (KJV)

A believer who does not have boundaries has already made provision to fulfill the lust of the flesh. We must not make provision for the flesh; rather, we should make provision for the Spirit. What this means is that the things we do or allow in our space can either be making provision for the things of God to thrive around us, or for the flesh to thrive around us. Even more sad are those who have a mix of both. They are utterly inconsistent, and they don’t know why.

The truth is that we must set boundaries for ourselves that keep us from straying into the flesh. Boundaries include the friends you keep, the things you watch, and many other principles that help to keep you in check. A lot of people don’t understand the importance of boundaries, and they therefore fall to what the boundary was protecting them from. Just like the railing in your balcony is to protect you from falling, the boundaries in your life will prevent you from falling into sin. Therefore, a person without boundaries is already in danger.

There are certain boundaries you must put in place to help prevent immorality in your life. In the case of sexual sin for example, a lot of people think it’s just about not being alone with the opposite sex. That’s very important, but that’s not where it starts. It starts from all the other things you allow before then. When you watch movies that stir up the flesh or listen to music that does the same, it will be impossible to prevent the lust of the flesh. So it is with every other sin, you must guard against and give no place to Satan. For example, to guard against envy and strife, you must guard yourself from listening to gossips. These and many more are the ways we set boundaries.

Neither give place to the devil.
Ephesians 4:27 (KJV)

Prayer
Holy Spirit, please give me wisdom and discipline to set boundaries in my life.
