“God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.”
— Psalm 68:6 (KJV)
The family unit is God’s idea. From the very beginning, it has been His ordained structure for nurturing love, passing down values, and raising godly generations. A society will always reflect the state of its families. Where there is respect, love, and order in families, society thrives. But when families are broken and dysfunctional, society eventually becomes a mirror of that dysfunction.
This is why the devil fiercely attacks marriage and the family institution. He knows that by destroying families, he can raise more wounded and dysfunctional people, creating a broken world. But as believers, we must recognize that family is not just a human arrangement—it is part of God’s divine plan. Except in rare cases where someone is specially called to remain unmarried for the sake of ministry, every believer should desire and aspire to build a godly home.
From the book of Genesis, we see God’s intent for marriage and family life. He did not design children to grow up outside the nurturing environment of a home. His will is clear:
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
— Proverbs 22:6 (KJV)
Paul echoes this truth in Ephesians when he instructs parents to raise children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. This is because a godly home provides the best foundation for a child’s future—spiritually, emotionally, and socially. Where this foundation is lacking, children are often more vulnerable to the enemy’s schemes.
Therefore, it is the responsibility of Christians to intentionally build godly marriages and homes. Such families not only raise children who love God but also produce responsible individuals who positively influence society. When we uphold God’s design for family, we preserve the values of His kingdom in the earth.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your beautiful design for family. Help me to honor this design, to build a godly home, and to raise generations that will love You and shine as lights in this world. Amen.
