“Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.”
— John 15:3 (KJV)
As believers, we have been washed in the blood of Christ and our sins have been blotted out forever. Yet, Jesus shows us that there is also a daily cleansing we must receive through His Word. Living in a fallen world means we are constantly exposed to its corruptions and pollutions. In conversations, in entertainment, in culture, etc., we are exposed daily. That is why it is vital that our hearts and minds are continually renewed by God’s Word.
Glory to God, He has given us an ever-flowing fountain to keep us pure, that is His Word! When we faithfully feed on the Scriptures daily, we begin to think like Christ and live like Christ, because the Word is Christ. Time in the Word is time in His presence, where our hearts are refreshed and our minds renewed.
But when we neglect the Word, worldly thoughts and influences quickly take root in our hearts. Jesus said, “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you” (John 15:3 KJV), and Paul reminds us, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2 NIV).
The world is constantly attempting to shape our thinking, often subtly through media, culture, and trends. As believers, we must wash off these ideas by replacing them with God’s truth. Whether it is the normalization of sin, distorted morality, or ungodly ideologies, we must allow the Word to cleanse us daily so that we remain unstained and spiritually sharp.
Paul writes:
“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word…“
— Ephesians 5:25–26 (NIV)
Just as Christ cleanses His bride by the Word, we too must submit to this daily washing so we remain holy and effective as His witnesses.
PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word that cleanses and renews me daily. Help me to stay faithful in reading and meditating on it so that my mind stays pure and aligned with Your will. Wash me today with the water of Your Word and make me a vessel that reflects Your holiness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
