Led by God’s Spirit

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Romans 8:14 (KJV)

Every person who has placed faith in Christ is born of the Spirit of God and indwelt by that same Spirit. This is what the Bible teaches. So if you have genuinely received Jesus into your life as your Lord and Saviour, then you are a child of God and a candidate for the Spirit’s leading.

You do not need to beg God to lead you; He has already taken the initiative. As our anchor scripture says, He leads His children. Your responsibility, therefore, is not to get God to lead you, but to learn to follow His leading.

Many believers, however, struggle to recognize the Spirit’s voice. They ask, “How can I tell when God is speaking to me?” The answer begins with the Word of God. The more you study Scripture, the more you become familiar with how God speaks. The Spirit of God never leads contrary to the Word of God. So the more you feed on the Word and spend time in prayer, the easier it becomes to discern His voice.

Any voice or influence that contradicts the Word of God is not from Him. Therefore, to be led by the Spirit, you must first learn to follow the leading already given in Scripture.

“And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”
John 10:5, 27 (KJV)

A sheep knows the shepherd’s voice because it has become familiar with that voice through constant fellowship. You can easily recognize your mother’s voice because of the time you have spent hearing her speak. It is not automatic; it comes from relationship. In the same way, if you spend consistent time with God through His Word and prayer, you will know His voice without confusion.

Prayer:
Dear Father, thank you for giving me your Spirit to guide and lead me. Help me to stay in fellowship with you through your Word so that I may always recognize your voice and follow your leading. Amen.
