But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God…
— Galatians 4:9 (KJV)
Many Christians do not realize that they can have a personal relationship with God. Some believe that the prayer of a pastor or “man of God” carries more weight than theirs. Others think God will answer a minister but not them. While we must honor ministers of God, we must not idolize them or shortchange ourselves.
The truth is that every believer has been given direct access to the Father. We can all relate with Him personally. You do not need anyone to hear from God on your behalf. Even the Lord Jesus said that He would not need to ask the Father for us because we ourselves have direct access to Him.
In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God.
— John 16:26–27 (NIV)
If the Lord Jesus Himself has said that we can approach the Father directly in prayer, why should we think we need another person to reach Him for us? God knows you. That is the beauty of the New Covenant.
Under the Old Covenant, only prophets, priests, and kings had direct access to God. But in the New Covenant, His Spirit has been poured out on all flesh. Every believer can know Him personally. The writer of Hebrews confirms this when he says:
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
— Hebrews 8:10–11 (KJV)
You are known by God. You can talk to Him, hear from Him, and enjoy fellowship with Him every day. He loves to hear your voice and desires that you grow in the confidence of that relationship.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for giving me access to You through Jesus Christ. I am grateful that I am known by You. Help me to grow in intimacy with You every day. Amen.
