The Power of Christ’s Blood: Redemption, Forgiveness, and Freedom

“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”
– 1 Peter 1:18-19 (NIV)

The blood of Christ signifies so many things for the believer, but the most important significance is the remission of sins that we have as a result. We must always remember that a huge price was paid for us. The forgiveness of sins that we have today came at a high cost—it cost God the blood of His only begotten Son.

Under the law of Moses, we are told that only the shedding of blood could bring forgiveness of sins (Hebrews 9:22) Forgiveness of sins was not dependent on how sorry you were or how much you begged. Even when people repented, they were still required to offer a lamb in sacrifice. The New Testament makes us understand that all these were just a foreshadow of God’s main plan.

When Jesus came on the scene, He was called the Lamb of God who would take away the sin of the world. And truly, when He died on that cross, He paid once and for all for all of our sins. In doing so, He blotted out every accusation of the law that was against us.

“When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; He has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.”
– Colossians 2:13-14 (NIV)

The “blood of Jesus” is not just something to call upon when you are in danger. It is a representation of the very sacrifice that brought us our eternal redemption in Christ Jesus. Not only does the blood of Christ redeem believers from sin and Satan, but it also frees us from the judgment of the law. In other words, we who were supposed to be punished because we broke the law are now pardoned because Christ has died our death.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, for shedding Your blood for us at the cross of Calvary.
