Discipleship Devotional, May 27th, 2025
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings, you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
– Psalm 91:1–4 (NIV)
We live in a wicked world filled with unreasonable and godless people. Because of this, we must always pray for the Lord’s protection each day. I strongly believe in the power of prayer. I believe that when we call upon the Lord, He never ceases to show up on our behalf. Therefore, we must not give in to the spirit of fear that is crippling the hearts of many in our nation. Rather, we must pray and build our confidence in God, who is our defense.
More than praying for protection for ourselves, we must also pray and destroy the evil works of the devil in our cities. We must pray that the plans of Satan to cause unrest and chaos in our cities will be thwarted. The truth is that, as much as there are natural forces causing this unrest, there are also spiritual forces fueling it. Therefore, as much as we must take natural steps to deal with the natural forces, we must also deal with the spiritual forces behind it in the place of prayer.
Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
– Isaiah 43:1–2 (NIV)
Make up your mind to put away fear from your life completely by building your trust in God and His word. Carry the consciousness that you are under the protection of the Most High God. His name is a strong tower of safety.
Prayer
Thank you, Father, for continually guarding and protecting us in this wicked world.
