What Jesus thinks of you matters far more than what others think—or even what you think about yourself. This is a truth every believer must carry in their heart daily. In our anchor verse, Jesus declares, “You are the light of the world.” That is both a profound identity and a divine assignment.
Jesus continues in the following verses by saying that no one lights a lamp and hides it under a basket. If humans wouldn’t do that, God certainly won’t do it either. God made you a light with a purpose—to shine.
Your life is meant to bring hope, clarity, and direction to those around you. In your home, workplace, community, and circle of influence, God has positioned you to be a beacon of light—a reflection of His love, truth, and grace.
However, it’s not enough to simply be the light; Jesus commands us to “let your light shine before men.” God didn’t place His light in you for it to be hidden. Your words, actions, and lifestyle should reveal His presence in you.
Never see yourself as ordinary or insignificant. Never despise what God has deposited in you. Refuse to accept the negative labels the enemy tries to put on you. Your past does not define your future—God’s Word does. The darker the world gets, the greater your opportunity to shine brightly.
The Apostle Paul echoes this in Philippians:
“Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life…”

No matter how dark the world around you may seem, you were made for this. You were born to shine.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me the light of the world. Help me to shine brightly in every place You send me. Let my life reflect Your love, truth, and goodness, and inspire others to know and follow You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
