Growing Into Partnership With God

“As God’s co-workers we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain.”
2 Corinthians 6:1 (NIV)

Children rely on their family for everything, from bathing to eating, because they are not yet capable of handling life on their own. In contrast, adults take responsibility not only for themselves but also for others. This distinction also applies spiritually: many believers remain dependent and immature, while others grow into maturity, taking responsibility for the work of God and for the spiritual well-being of others.

God desires us to mature in our faith, moving beyond spiritual childhood. Just as earthly parents entrust greater responsibilities to mature children, our Heavenly Father desires to partner with us in His plans. Rather than merely doing things for us, God wants to work through us.

The apostles understood this partnership and described themselves as “labourers together with God.”

“For we are labourers together with God…”
1 Corinthians 3:9 (KJV)

So let us grow in faith, stepping up to take the tasks and responsibilities that God entrusts to us as His co-workers in spreading His love and message to the world. This is not simply about participating in church activities. Many people are active in church yet not truly serving Christ. True partnership is about taking up your cross, following Him daily, and advancing the gospel wherever you are.

After Jesus’ ascension, when the disciples went out in obedience, the Bible says the Lord worked with them and confirmed their words with signs and wonders:

“And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following.”
Mark 16:20 (KJV)

Let us not remain spiritual children, receiving God’s grace in vain. Let us grow, take up our cross, and walk as true co-workers with God.

Prayer
Thank You, Lord, for the privilege of partnership. Thank You for counting me worthy to work with You. Help me to grow in faith and to faithfully serve Your purpose. Amen.
