“By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see.”
— Acts 3:16 (NIV)
When we read about the miracle at the Beautiful Gate in Acts 3, our first response should be: This is still possible today. It’s easy to think, “Well, that was Peter the Apostle,” as though he operated from a unique spiritual advantage we cannot access. But Peter himself disabuses us of that notion—he makes it clear that the man was healed by faith in the name of Jesus, not by any special power of his own.
This truth should shape how we read Scripture. We must approach the Word not as mere history but as a present reality. If God could use Peter, He can use you. He can use me. The power has not changed. The name of Jesus is still mighty to save, heal, and deliver.
Faith for the impossible is persistent. Even when we haven’t seen the miracle yet, we continue to trust in His name. Our confidence is not in what we see, but in the One who said, “Nothing is impossible with God.”
Faith for the impossible is also unashamed. Many believers shrink back from stepping out in faith because they fear the shame of “what if nothing happens?” But that mindset wrongly assumes that we are the ones responsible for the outcome. We are not the miracle workers—God is. When we speak in His name, He is the one who confirms His Word. If we take the shame when it doesn’t happen, we’ll take the glory when it does. But neither belongs to us.
Finally, faith for the impossible is surrendered. It trusts God with reckless abandon, confident in His power and goodness. It dares to believe, to speak, and to act—because it knows that God can do anything.
As believers, we must never lose our wonder or expectation for the miraculous. We must never stop trusting God for the impossible, no matter our situation.
Prayer:
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for the power and authority in your name. Thank you for making that name available to me. I choose today to believe for the impossible, knowing that you are able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all I ask or think. Amen.
