“The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.”
— Proverbs 28:1 (KJV)
One of the most compelling reasons to stay away from sin is that sin drains our boldness before God. It robs us of the confidence to stand in His presence and to represent Him with courage before others. Our anchor verse shows that boldness is a natural result of walking in righteousness. The righteous are bold as a lion.
When the Apostle Paul describes the armor of God, he includes the breastplate of righteousness, symbolizing protection for our hearts. This means that righteous living guards our spiritual confidence and allows us to live courageously.
If we want to accomplish great things for God, we must put on this breastplate daily. A life surrendered to the desires of the flesh produces fear, guilt, and hesitation. These hinder us from moving effectively in God’s name. That is why the writer of Hebrews encourages us:
“Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.”
— Hebrews 12:1–2 (KJV)
When we walk in the light as He is in the light, we run with confidence and spiritual clarity. But when we compromise God’s Word, we begin to stumble, lose direction, and grow timid. Sin doesn’t stop God from loving us, but it makes us feel distant from Him — and that distance weakens our boldness.
Today, choose to take righteousness seriously. Holiness is not just a command; it is a shield that keeps your heart strong and your steps steady. The blessing we focus on today is spiritual boldness — the inner confidence that comes from knowing you are right with God.
PRAYER:
Holy Spirit, help me to walk daily in righteousness. Strengthen me to lay aside every weight and quickly repent whenever I stumble. Fill me with the boldness that comes from being in right standing with You. Amen.
