Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
— Ephesians 4:3 (NIV)
God desires that His children live together in love, unity, and oneness. Jesus Himself said that the world would know we are His disciples by the love we show to one another. This shows how deeply God values harmony within His family. One of the greatest ways to preserve this unity is through the bond of peace.
As seen in our anchor text, genuine peace among believers produces spiritual oneness and shared purpose. There are certain blessings and manifestations of God’s power that can only be experienced when believers walk together in unity. Jesus said that when two or more agree concerning anything, it shall be done for them by the Father in heaven. (Matthew 18:19) Such agreement cannot exist where there is strife or malice.
Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.
— Hebrews 12:14 (KJV)
The bond of peace is not about maintaining outward calm while harboring inner resentment. It is not the kind of “peace” the world offers, where people pretend to get along but secretly hold grudges. The peace God calls us to is the peace produced by the Holy Spirit. It flows from a heart transformed by love, humility, and forgiveness.
Jesus said the peace He gives is not like that of the world. His peace quiets the heart, removes strife, and fosters true unity among believers. When we walk in this peace, we reflect the very nature of God and make room for His presence to dwell among us.
Prayer:
Father, help me to walk in true peace and unity with others. Teach me to love sincerely, forgive freely, and live in harmony with my brothers and sisters in Christ. Let Your peace rule my heart and guide my relationships today. Amen.
