Authority Backed by Heaven

“I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”
— Luke 10:19 (NIV)

Many people do not know how to differentiate between authority and power, and because of that, they fail to exercise the authority they have in Christ. Authority does not require personal strength or ability to enforce obedience.

For example, when a governor declares a curfew, people comply not because the governor has the physical strength to enforce it, but because the authority of the state backs that declaration. It is not the individual’s might that ensures obedience but the power behind the office they represent.

In the same way, many Christians think that exercising spiritual authority requires their own strength. They hesitate or fear because they do not realize that demons and evil forces are compelled to obey them not because of who they are in themselves, but because of the authority they carry in Christ.

When you stand in Christ’s stead, it is as though Christ Himself is speaking. The government of heaven stands behind your words, and the forces of darkness have no choice but to submit. Hallelujah!

The use of this authority depends on your trust in Christ’s words. You must understand the power of the One who sent you. When you have a firm revelation of His might, you will not fear any opposition. Confidence in Christ’s power and faithfulness produces boldness and audacity in you. You begin to speak with the calm assurance of a ruler whose decrees are backed by power.

“And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues.”
— Mark 16:17 (NIV)

Prayer:
Father, thank You for giving me authority in Christ. Help me to walk in the confidence of this truth. I declare that I am bold, fearless, and full of faith, knowing that heaven backs my words in Christ Jesus. Amen.
