She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.”
– Genesis 16:13 (NIV)
One of the greatest blessings we have as believers is that we serve a God who is watching and who cares for us beyond our understanding. Oftentimes, we go through various trials and tests, and it may seem like we are alone. But like David said, even if we walk in the valley of the shadow of death, we won’t fear any evil because He is with us. In other words, God can be with you even in the valley of the shadow of death. We must therefore always remind ourselves that He is with us and that He is not an unjust God.
Through all the heartache and pain we go through, God loves us deeply, and He sees the entire picture as we don’t see it. He is not a God who is untouched by our hardships. He is El Roi, the One who sees us in our unique situations and deals with us in our unique circumstances. We serve a God who oversees trillions of His creatures, yet He said that no strand of our hair can fall to the ground without His knowledge. Therefore, whenever you are in a fix, never think God is not with you. Don’t ever think God has forgotten you. He has not.
Rather, like James said, you ought to count it all joy when you go through such tests because you know that God has your best interests in mind. He will, in the end, work all things together for your good. I have come to encourage you by the Word of God today that you should wipe away your tears and rest in God. Rest in the One who sees every situation. Rest in the One who cares for the lilies of the field and the birds of the air. Be assured that He will surely play His hand in this game, and when He does, it will be a wonder and an amazement to all.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, help me to rest in the Lord. Help me never to forget that El Roi sees me.
