Showing Forth His Praises

Discipleship Devotional, February 10th, 2025

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.”
– 1 Peter 2:9 (KJV)

As believers, we have been called to show forth the praises of God. This means we are to display His glory in such a way that brings praise to His name. Since He has called us out of darkness into marvelous light, we must let our light shine before men so that they will glorify Him. When a year starts like this, many people are thinking about what God can and will do for them. However, not many are thinking about how much they want to show forth His glory in the coming year. This should not be us. We must be mindful of causing Him praise this year.

Unfortunately, instead of bringing Him glory, there are those whose lives cause His name to be blasphemed. There are people who, because of their lifestyle, cause sinners to become more hardened in sin and refuse to follow Christ.

“As it is written: ‘God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.'”
– Romans 2:24 (NIV)

Therefore, we must plan how we want to display His praises to our world. We are not a chosen generation for nothing. We are not a royal priesthood for nothing. We are not a peculiar people and a holy nation for nothing. The text tells us that all this is so we can display His glory in our sphere.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
– Matthew 5:16 (KJV)

Holy Spirit, help me this year to shine my light and display the glory of God everywhere I go.
