The Good Shepherd

Discipleship Devotional, February 11th, 2025

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.”
– Psalm 23:1-2 (KJV)

One of the reasons it is very important to trust God with your life is because He is our shepherd. The Bible tells us on several occasions that He is the good shepherd who takes care of the sheep. A shepherd leads, feeds, and protects the flock.

In our anchor text, David didn’t only speak about “not lacking” because of the good shepherd. He also spoke about being led by the good shepherd and being protected by Him.

“He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”
– Psalm 23:3 (KJV)

In John 10:11, Jesus said that the good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. He went on to prove this by giving His life for us at the cross. We, therefore, have no reason to doubt His leadership because He has demonstrated His love for us.

It is for our good if we yield the leadership of our lives to Him. He knows better than us how to lead the way. He is the good shepherd who came to seek and save the lost sheep of the fold. He is said to leave the 99 in search of the one who is lost. Your life is important to Him. Allow Him to take the wheel.

“I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.”
– John 10:11, 14 (KJV)

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to see You as the good shepherd. Help me to trust You with my life.
