Pouring Your Heart in Prayer

Discipleship Devotional, March 10th, 2025

“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”
– Psalm 55:22 (NIV)

A lot of times, the kind of home a child grows up in can color their view of God. The kind of father or mother a person has can influence how they view the Fatherhood of God. If you grew up in a home where you couldn’t confide in your parents about what you were going through, chances are that you may relate to God in that same way. But God is not like that.

The Bible tells us that our God is a loving Father and the Father of all comfort. He is the best Father. We should not be afraid to pour out our hearts and hurts to Him. Scripture instructs us to cast our cares on Him because He cares for us. If you don’t think you have anyone to confide in and pour out your heart to, our heavenly Father is there. He does not get bored with us, neither is He too busy for us. This is what we do in prayer. Prayer is our avenue to fellowship with our loving Father. Why should you share your hurts with everyone but God? No. Trust in Him. Cast your burden upon Him.

As the songwriter said:

“Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer.”

I urge you this morning to share that problem with God. Cast your cares on Him; He cares for you.

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”
– 1 Peter 5:7 (NLT)

Prayer

Heavenly Father, help me to always boldly come to You with my cares and burdens. Thank You, Father.
