“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
— Colossians 2:6-7 (NIV)
Salvation is the greatest miracle and gift that anyone can have. It is the complete alteration of a person’s eternal destiny. Once we were lost, now we are found. Once we were dead, now we are alive forever. Once we were blind, now we see. This is something we must be eternally grateful for. Additionally, we must realize that the journey does not end at salvation. If this were so, there would be no need to live any other second after you are saved. But that is not the case. The Bible shows us how we ought to live now that we are saved.
In our anchor text, Paul says that just as we have received Christ into our lives, we must continue to live in and for Him. We must become rooted and grounded in Him so that we will be strong in the faith. Many people receive Christ but do not pay attention to being rooted and grounded. The Bible says about that when persecution and tribulations arise, they fall away because they are not strong.
Jesus said in the parable of the sower:
“The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.”
— Matthew 13:20-21 (NIV)
Now that you are saved, what’s next is to become rooted and grounded. This is done by feeding on God’s word (the scriptures) daily, praying, and fellowshipping with other believers.
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, help me to become more and more deeply rooted in Christ Jesus.
