Faith is Not Hasty

Discipleship Devotional, March 31st, 2025

“Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.”
— Isaiah 28:16 (KJV)

A lot of the time, we are thrown into panic simply because of what we see others doing. Many people fall into depression simply by seeing what others are achieving. They feel like life is passing them by; hence, they panic seriously. In many cases, where there’s no sound counsel, such people resort to hasty actions that land them in trouble.

Our anchor text says that he who believes does not make haste. Other translations say he does not panic or make hasty decisions. As long as you are working hard and in the center of God’s will, you need not panic. That all your friends are traveling abroad does not mean you should hastily do the same. Some have married just anyone simply because it seemed like everyone was getting married. No, faith in God keeps you at rest.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and don’t lean on your own understanding. Not everything that looks like progress is real progress.

In walking with God, it is always better to be slower than God than to be faster than Him. Yes, it is not good to be slower than God. The best place to be is to walk with God. However, it is even safer to be slower than to be faster. When you make haste, you can cause for yourself, sometimes, irreversible damage. Some are obsessed with the idea of supernatural speed. Well, what is important is that such speed is in the will of God. Any speed outside the will of God is haste and may be dangerous. He that believes does not panic. Faith produces rest in your heart.

Prayer:

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for today’s message. Help me to rest in You and not panic or be hasty.
