“Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.”
Matthew 7:6 KJV
In our anchor text, the Lord Jesus admonishes us not to cast our pearls before swine. Today, we want to use this to emphasize the holiness and sacredness of our vessels. The scriptures call our bodies the holy temple of God. And not only our bodies—our entire being (spirit, soul, and body)—is sacred for the Lord:
“Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.”
1 Thessalonians 5:23 (NLT)
Therefore, one of the holy things that we must not give to dogs, or cast to swine, is our body and, by extension, our entire being. We must not give our vessels over to sexual perversions of any kind. When we do that, we are polluting God’s holy treasure. It is just like casting a diamond ring to pigs.
As a man, don’t give your vessel to strange women. As a woman, don’t give your vessel to strange men. Don’t offer your body on the altar of the spirit of whoredom. This also includes pornography. Don’t give your soul over to the wicked spirits of pornography. As our anchor text says, it will trample you underfoot and rend you.
Meanwhile, it is supposed to be the other way round—you are the one who is supposed to trample them underfoot, as they have no dominion over you.
If you are reading this today and you have engaged in this before, it is of no use to wallow in guilt. Whatever has happened in the past is gone. God offers a clean slate to you today. Going forward, decide not to pollute your vessel. Ask God for grace and He will give you. He is ever ready, stretching out His helping hand.
Prayer:
Help me, Lord, to treasure what You call holy. Help me not to cast my pearls before swine. Amen.
