Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving
— Colossians 4:2 (KJV)
As a growing believer, the only way to build a prayer life is to prioritize consistency over length for a start. As you build consistency, you can begin to increase the length. In practicality, what this means is this: it is better to pray 20 minutes every morning than to pray 3 hours only once a week. Though the latter is more mathematically cumulative, the former is what produces true growth.
This is true just as it is true that a relationship where a couple talks every day for 20 minutes will be healthier than a relationship where they talk for 3 hours only once a week. And our relationship with God is no different in this respect. We must prioritize consistency because by so doing, we get to have a better understanding of God. Therefore, the mindset to have is that you must fellowship with God in the place of prayer daily. When you do this, you will have a more robust Christian experience.
…continuing steadfastly in prayer
— Romans 12:12 (NIV)
Today, choose to talk to your lover. The Bible says that “your Maker is your husband” (Isaiah 54:5). Who has a husband who does not speak to them? The Bible also says that you are the bride of Christ. So you must treat prayer like communication. What is more important in communication is not always how long, but how frequent.
For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.
— Isaiah 54:5 (KJV)
Prayer:
Holy Spirit, help me to remain consistent in the place of prayer. Teach me to prioritize daily fellowship with You. Amen.
