And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. – Luke 24:49 (KJV)
Jesus spoke several times about how he would send the promise of the Father to us after His resurrection and ascension. This is that promise that God will dwell in us someday by the Holy Spirit. This reality is now possible because of the sacrifice of Christ. In the Old Testament, God promised that He will pour out his Spirit upon us. We find this promise in several places in the Old Testament when God said He will give us a new heart and a new spirit. The Apostle Paul speaking said:
Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. – Galatians 3:13-14 (KJV)
This promise of the Spirit was also given to the patriarch Abraham and the bible says he rejoiced to see those days. That means he looked forward to it. This is what all the saints all looked forward to and even the angels looked into it.
Now, we have this promise as a reality for us today. We must not take for granted this wonderful gift that God has given us. We must take advantage of this Spirit at work by first yielding to His leading and obeying his every instruction.
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you – John 14:16-17 (NIV)
Prayer
Thank you Heavenly Father for the gift of the Holy Spirit that leads and directs us.
