Discipleship Devotional, April 9th, 2025
See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
– Ephesians 5:15 (KJV)
God wants us to walk circumspectly. This means we are to carefully consider everything with the lens of God’s Word. If we must see everything with the lens of the Word, it means our mindset must align with God’s Word. As believers, we must understand that it matters what kind of mindset we have. When we have a carnal mindset, we will be in enmity with God without knowing.
There are believers who have unknowingly aligned with worldly ideologies that are themselves in opposition to the cross of Christ. At times, these ideologies may have a noble cause, but more times than not, they subtly sneak in a terrible poison into it. This is why we must be circumspect. For example, the objective of equality between men and women is a glorious cause. The cause for equal rights for men and women is, in itself, a noble and godly cause. Galatians 3:28 says there’s “neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” So evidently, that’s a cause that Scripture supports.
However, the movement called feminism has a whole lot of other doctrines that are not of God, e.g., the tearing down of the biblical order of marriage, misandry (hatred for men), etc. So while a believer may want to identify with it because of a noble quest for equal rights, they could most likely be sucked in and baptized into all the other ideologies, which would make them stand in opposition to the cross of Christ without knowing they are doing so.
This is why we must be careful about the kind of social ideologies we feed our minds with. This is not only for feminism. This is what has made some believers see nothing wrong with gay marriage, transgenderism, etc.
Reflections:
We must be sober. We must be vigilant. Our adversary the devil does not always look obvious. He can be subtle like a serpent. We must not be deceived by his trickery.
