“I was glad when they said, ‘Let us go into the house of the Lord.'”
— Psalm 122:1 (NKJV)
Some people find the things of God boring. They attend church services but can’t wait for them to end. They often complain about sermons being too long, yet the same people have no problem watching a long movie or spending hours playing video games. Why? Because they enjoy those activities. However, they don’t find the same enjoyment in the presence of God.
The Bible encourages us to “delight ourselves in the Lord.” This means we should find joy in being with God. You might think this sounds unrealistic, but that’s likely because you haven’t truly tried it. We tend to enjoy things that we have trained our desires to appreciate. The more time we spend with God, the more we begin to discover the joy of His presence.
This isn’t just about church services or Christian gatherings; it’s also about personal time with God. Whether in quiet moments of prayer, worship, or simply sitting in His presence, we can experience a joy that the world cannot offer. Sometimes, even if you don’t have anything specific to pray about, just take a walk to a quiet place, sit, and talk to God as you would with a close friend. In those moments, you allow God to refresh your soul, and you will find a deep and lasting joy.
Starting today, make it a habit to enjoy the presence of God. Learn to delight in Him. David expressed gladness whenever he heard the call to enter God’s presence, and that same joy is available to us when we draw near to Him.
Prayer:
Thank you, Father, for the joy of your presence. Amen.
